I'm considering using the same vinyl wainscot as I'm using for the porch ceiling, but I'm not sure if I'll like it. ![]() I'm still undecided on what I'll use for the soffit. I have no concerns about the pine bleeding. It looks great, & we'll see how it holds up. Before painting I filled and sanded all seams so it looks like one solid continuous beam. In the end, I settled on knot-free pine to wrap the beam, and the best Behr paint that I could find. I had hoped to use Koma or Azek to wrap 2x lumber and create a 'maintenance-free' beam, but I had concerns about the materials expanding/contracting differently and ending up with a warped mess. I couldn't find a composite 'system' (set of materials) that would work for the porch beam. For example, I chose douglas fir porch flooring over Tendura becase you can't paint the Tendura (& it's an ugly grayish-brown color). Some of the composite stuff doesn't look like what it's meant to replace. However, for a few reasons I have chosen not to: HBG Colonial PermaPost columns ( Composite railing ( Fabral standing seam steel roofing ( Vinyl beaded wainscot ceiling ( If I could use composite for every single element, I would. I was originally looking at a AZEK product but have run into many local builders that have had nothing good to say about this product. I don't want to use traditional pine board trim because it don't matter what quality it is now a days it bleeds pine pitch all over the place. This area is about 9' long which then goes for about another 14' to the room addition on the house. The front porch has a dimension of 8' wide x 42' long and as it approaches the south side of the house it wraps around at a 45% angle versus the traditional 90% corner. I would like to find a product that would be low maintenance for the soffit/fascia area of this project and I would like to find a low maintenance product as well for the front porch support beam as well. The soffit and fascia of the porch and room are on the same level for one continuous flow. I'm working on a full farmers porch which wraps around the house to a new addition at the present time.
